The old rugged video screen
One more thought about megachurches, prompted by a continued conversation with Greg Horton.
Megachurches seem to underestimate or ignore the way that physical practices hasve spiritual consequences. The center of worship at most megachurches, from a purely physical point of view, is the video screen. Video screens, even when they aren't center stage, dwarf everything else in the worship space, and in many cases the cross in not seen. In effect, the cross has been replaced by the screen as an icon in Protestant megachurch worship, a development that is at least troubling and potentially idolatrous, and one that should be reversed.
